The Black Phone Horror

Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well even without a follow-up. Taking place in 1978 Denver, multiple kidnappings has made the children on edge. The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the conflict between God and Mammon, the victory is clear for Mammon in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation about the fallen televangelist and her criminal husband. The actor portrays the venal Jim, who declares at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals begin capitalizing on the nation's spiritual convictions. It's an extravaganza of tacky decor, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, yet Chastain succeeds to show the real-life figure with compassion. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, on Film4

This Espionage Thriller

The current week's another release from Steven Soderbergh is a spy mystery as tight similar to the collars worn by Fassbender's British agent. His assignment is to identify a mole within their ranks from a group of five – among them is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. The two stars are experts of understated style, so a delicious psychological game of truth or lie takes place. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela take part the smart espionage amusement. October 17th, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
